Landgate’s contribution to the economy has been recognised with a prestigious Western Australian Government award.
The agency won the ‘developing the economy’ category of the 2016 Premier’s Awards for its innovative cloud-based land titling platform, the New Land Registry (NLR).
Landgate Chief Executive Mike Bradford said the NLR has improved the way land transactions are conducted in Western Australia, with additional commercial opportunities nationally and internationally.
“In 2013 our Innovation Program explored an idea to embrace digital disruption and revolutionise the 19th century Torrens system,” Mr Bradford said.
“We worked with our commercial partner Ajilon to produce the NLR which automates the majority of land transactions, driving down document processing times and costs.
“The NLR has a total project saving of $52 million across the first five years of operation in Western Australia and the potential to save Australian land registries, mortgagors and mortgagees hundreds of millions of dollars per annum.”
