Activity in the Western Australian property market has fallen to historic lows according to the State's official
land information authority.
Landgate Chief Executive, Mike Bradford, says the calendar year 2010 saw the lowest activity for a decade, and the second half of the year was significantly worse than the first.
The property activity covers all documents lodged with Landgate, including land transfers, mortgages and
caveats.
Mr Bradford said the downturn had continued for the start of 2011. "The January and the February figures
released today show the lowest activity in 19 years. If the current trend continues this financial year the
Western Australian property market will register its lowest levels of activity for nearly two decades".
Mr Bradford said like most involved in the property industry the downturn had hit Landgate's bottom line and
the Agency was actively seeking to reduce costs and expand business in other areas.
